Making the best of a summer's day

Being a teenager is hard. With an onset of hormones and emotions it can be difficult sometimes to even get out of bed or talk to your parents. However, one thing teenagers have going for them is their youthful appearances and young looking skin. If you were like most teenagers, the last thing you thought about was the effects of aging and how you would feel in your forties and fifties. Here are three things you wish you would’ve known about aging in your teens.

Sunscreen is your bestfriend

If you could go back in time, I’m sure you would put down the tanning oil and baby oil, and opt for an SPF 100 instead. As your skin’s worst enemy, the sun can have the most detrimental and damaging effects on the health and appearance of your skin. By wearing sunscreen on your face, neck, and hands everyday starting in your teens, you can help to reduce the appearance of sunspots and wrinkles.

Tanning Beds Are the Devil

Sure, it used to be fun to hit the tanning beds with your friends after class in highschool, and see who could come out with the best looking tan. Not only was tan skin the hot thing but it was also something everyone and their mom envied. However, by exposing your skin to the extreme and intense UV rays in a tanning bed, you were pretty much exposing your skin to cancer. Currently deemed as cancer beds and coffins, tanning beds are one of the biggest things you should have avoided as a teenager, or that you wish you would have.

It Will Happen

Being a teenager makes you feel invisible, like the world is yours and you can live through anything. However, as you grow up and your body starts to age, you will notice that aging is inevitable and even if you think it won’t happen to you, it will. The best way to prepare for aging skin is to start on a good skincare regimen early on, that way you get into the routine of babying your skin from day one.
