Breast Reshaping after Pregnancy

What are the changes after pregnancy and my options?

After pregnancy many women desire and improvement in the shape and size of their breasts.  The skin often stretches, and hormonal changes, especially if one breastfeeds, can deflate the shape of the breast, particularly in the upper pole (portion) of the breast.

To reshape the breast properly there are a variety of options.  These include a breast implant, a breastlift, or both implant and lift.

The procedure:

Breast implants:

Implants will improve the shape of the breast but providing fullness to the breast as well as filling some of the saggy skin envelope that can develop.  An implant with a larger profile (projection) can even provide the appearance of minor breast lift. This is an option for patients with only a small amount of ptosis (lowering of nipple and skin).

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

This is a maximal reshaping procedure that can lift the nipple and remove excess skin on the breast.  This often involves scars either around the nipple, or below the nipple.  Patients who desire maximal reshaping with only a modest increase in breast size are good candidates.

Breast Implants with a Lift

(Augmentation Mastopexy)

This procedure combines the two above procedures.  While sometimes a trickier procedure, this allows us to improve the fullness of the breast and increase size while still reshaping and lifting the nipple.  Patients who are good candidates can achieve a most comprehensive set of goals.
