How to Get the Best Out of Your Botox

Botox is the most popular injectable on the market— leaving patients virtually everywhere satisfied with the results they are receiving. However, because Botox is temporary, it’s important to ensure that you get the best results possible. Read the following article to learn more about how to get the best out of your Botox.

  1. Ice

Icing both before and after Botox will help to prevent any bruising at the facial site, and will also allow you to start reaping the benefits of Botox earlier on.

  1. Leave the Alcohol Alone

For the first 24 hours after you receive Botox, it’s important that you don’t have any alcohol .Because alcohol is a natural blood-thinner it will help to deter the benefits of Botox and may actually cause you more harm than good. However, after a few days you should be more than fine to enjoy a nice glass of wine or beer with friends and family.

  1. Avoid Blood Thinners

As stated above in reference to alcohol, blood thinners are a no-no for Botox patients. Before you get your Botox done, make sure to consult with your physician about any blood thinners you are on. In general, it’s advised to avoid the following medication for at least a week before getting Botox:

  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen, either generic or Advil, Aleve, or Motrin
  • Excedrin
  • John’s Wart
  • Vitamin E
  • Fish oil or Omega-3s
  • Ginseng
  1. Avoid Massage

For some fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, it’s advised to massage the injection site in order to ensure that the injections are being evenly distributed around the mouth. However, because Botox isn’t a filler and works differently than those previously mentioned, it’s important to avoid any sort of massage for at least 24 hours after you receive the Botox.
